Charged With a Crime?
Thousands of Cases Handled
What Should I Do if I Am Accused of a Crime?
If you are approached by a police officer or detective who would like to discuss the details of a crime they think you may have been involved in, you need to be prepared for how to respond. Put simply, you need to tell them that before you answer any of their questions, you would like to speak to your lawyer.
It is likely that the officer will try to convince you that it will go worse for you if you wait until an attorney is present. The truth of the matter is that if you undergo their interrogation without a lawyer, you have no guarantee that your rights will be protected. This could result in law enforcement misleading you and getting you to say something they can use against you to obtain a conviction. Do the safe thing and get in touch with our law firm prior to answering any of the questions the police have for you, even if you don’t feel you have anything to hide.

What Is the Difference Between Misdemeanors & Felonies?
In Georgia, crimes can be generally divided into two main categories: misdemeanors and felonies (although some offenses are charged as infractions). Misdemeanors are those crimes that are considered “less serious” in nature. As such, they are punished less harshly. The maximum punishment for this type of offense in Georgia is one-year imprisonment and a $1,000 fine.
More serious crimes, such as drug crimes and sex offenses, are considered felonies. The range of penalties for felonies in Georgia is extremely broad. For lower-level felonies, the punishment can be anywhere from one to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Higher-level offenses can result in much higher fines and even longer prison sentences, from 15 to 25 years and even life.
